OTOPLASTY

Correct the shape of your ears in our clinic

Aesthetic treatment for the ears

Otoplasty is the surgical process through which the patient is given the opportunity to reshape the shape or correct the positioning of their ears.

This surgery allows both to reduce the separation between the ears and the head, and to hide any defect that may be in them. Some examples of problems that can be corrected with this intervention are the size of the ears, the presence of uneven folds, excessively large lobes, deformities, etc.

Many people are not comfortable with the shape of their ears, with all that this entails. Among other consequences, they may suffer difficulties such as low self-esteem, shyness and other types of insecurities.

Whatever the cause that is preventing you from feeling comfortable with the shape of your ears, otoplasty can help you improve the way they look and thus give you a new look, with which you will feel much more comfortable.

In our practice we have treated many people with problems related to their ears. After undergoing this brief surgery, these patients have been able to drastically change the way they look and feel.

What is otoplasty?

The otoplasty operation usually lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. The exact time will change depending on factors such as age, health, patient characteristics and the complexity of the operation.

This process is usually performed using local anesthesia, although finally it will be the surgeon who will determine what type of anesthesia will be used in each case. Again, the exact decision may vary depending on the person and the type of operation required.

The treatment consists of performing different techniques to reshape the cartilage from the back of the ear. In this way it is possible to make it adopt the desired shape, thus reducing both the size and prominence of the ears.

For whom the treatment is indicated

Otoplasty is a valid treatment for anyone from 6 – 7 years old, at which time the shape and characteristics of the ears at the morphological level are developed practically in their entirety.

Most people who undergo this intervention do so to improve their image, thus achieving stronger self-esteem and feeling more comfortable with their own body.

In any case, in the clinic of Dr. Marisa Manzano will study your case carefully in order to advise you on the best option for you. If you are thinking of improving the appearance of your ears, take the first step now and book your appointment in our consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Otoplasty

After the operation, the patient should wear a band around the head. The function of this is to keep the ears in the desired position while the wound caused during the operation heals.

The band will be removed by the doctor one week after the operation. Subsequently, the patient should use a tape, mainly when going to sleep, to prevent the ears from moving forward by accident. The time during which the patient has to use this tape will vary according to the case and will be determined at all times by the doctor.

During this period, it is very normal for the person who has undergone the operation to feel discomfort in the area. These small discomforts can be remedied through the use of painkillers, which will be prescribed by Dr. Marisa Manzano in case it is necessary.

However, as it is not an excessively complex treatment, the patient is usually fine a couple of hours after the end of the intervention. This also means that you will be able to live a practically normal life once you have returned home, although you will have to avoid intense physical exercise for a few weeks.

This surgery is performed under local anesthesia and sometimes sedation is also added, so you do not feel any pain during the process.

However, as we have explained before, after the operation it is common to feel discomfort in the ears and around them. These discomforts will diminish with the passage of days as long as the patient pays attention to the doctor’s instructions.

The recovery will depend to a greater or lesser extent on the complexity of the operation, the recovery capacity of the person and the case made by the patient to the doctor’s instructions.

Being a mild operation, the person should not have a problem to perform daily activities after a couple of days after the operation.

However, you will not be able to lead 100% normal life until the wound has completely healed and the stitches have been removed. This period can last from 2 to 6 weeks, and the time will depend largely on factors such as the speed of healing that the person has and the care that is applied.

As there are so many factors that influence the type of operation that will be carried out, it is very difficult to give an exact price for it. In the first consultation Dr. Marisa Manzano will make a personalized diagnosis and give you a unique budget adapted to you.
